ASM in Mozambique
Four hundred years of Portuguese rule followed by 25 years of civil war has left Mozambique impoverished but open to the gospel. Both Christians and non-Christians are eager to learn more about God. This is exciting, but it also poses a problem since most people in Mozambique could not read a Bible even if they had one. Mozambique now has one of the fastest growing churches in all of Africa, but due largely to a lack of access to the Scriptures, spiritual growth and discipleship has been severely hampered. In Mozambique, as in many parts of the world, making the Bible available means providing Scriptures in audio form.
Audio Scripture Ministries (ASM), a faith-based nonprofit organization based in Holland, Michigan, produces audio recordings of God's Word in the languages of people groups around the world and makes the recordings available for distribution either directly or in partnership with other ministries.
ASM is working to get the Bible into the hands of these people in a form that they can use and understand. Personal digital audio Scripture players contain a native language translation of the Bible. These digital audio Scripture players are rugged, easy to use and solar powered so they can provide years of service in harsh environments.
Since the beginning of ASM's ministry presence in Mozambique in 2005, hundreds of audio Bibles have been distributed in numerous languages. This just a small success with a long way to go. The people are hungry to hear God's Word!
